The PPK/S operates with a simple blowback action, an exposed hammer, a manual safety, and a single- double-action trigger. The frame, slide, and most parts are made of stainless steel. The top of the slide features wave cuts to reduce glare; and the pistol comes with low-profile fixed sights, which interfere minimally when drawing the weapon from a holster or purse. The slide is serrated for a non-slip hold when loading or clearing the weapon. The ergonomic grip frame features checkered composite grip panels; and an extended beavertail allows a high hold without worrying about hammer bite. The magazine release is easily reached with the shooter's thumb, and an internal slide stop prevents external snags.
