These are a great boot. They're stiff as a serious hiking boot should be. You certainly don't want to lace these up for the first time and go for a long hike. Take your time to work them in and they'll be a top notch boot at a wicked price!
I had to send the boots back due to the left one being to narrow. Really did not want to. The looks, construction, etc. I did notice the same thing that the others stated. The boot is very tight around the upper ankle. I couldn't wear them to see if this was an issue or not. But that is something you might want to keep in mind.
I received these boots four weeks ago and have spent that entire period of time testing them out. The day they arrived, I wore them all day around the house. Initially, I had the same issue the previous reviewer mentioned: the boots dug into my bone a couple inches above the ankle. I was a bit concerned that would remain an issue, but after about a week of constant wear (around the house, to run errands, etc), I found it was no longer a problem.
The first week of wear was my "trial period", an attempt to break the boots in, but I got so comfortable with them that I started wearing them just about everywhere!
The Goretex has held its own against a couple of water tests (specifically, a torrential downpour that saturated everything but my feet and me stepping into a pond). I've found the ankle support to be more than satisfactory (even with my weak ankles).
To prospective buyers: be warned that these do run a bit big. I purchased the same size that I require with other New Balance shoes and have found that I MUST use thick hiking socks to make these fit right.
All in all - great buy! I'd purchase another pair in a heartbeat.
I loved it overall but as I plan on walking across the Pyranees, the high-top hurts my bone above my ankle on left foot--recommendations for correcting this?
I may not be able to take with me unless I can find a solution. Mole-skin did not help and placing a cloth seems crazy for ascending or descending hills/ mountain. Anyone have a solution, please share.
