I would recommend these boots for a great trail shoe but nothing too rugged or off trail. I got them this summer for the light wt and breathable fabric (I was looking for an alternative to my perfect hikers by Mendel that are great, but slightly heavy & hot in the summer). They had a great toe bed and are very light wt. They fit well! However if I am on steep hills they give me blisters in my heels every time. I have to tape my heels to prevent blisters. I broke them in on flat walks and then took them for some overnight backpacking trips with bushwhacking and they ripped on the edge of the toe bed on the 2nd trip. I love the lighter more breathable boot, but they just aren't as durable as I need.
Received my Mid VTX Hikers yesterday and am VERY pleased with them. I chose this shoe because of the advertised wider toe, thinking that I could avoid seams that might cause irritation. I also ordered a a half size larger for the same reasoning. I haven't hiked in them yet, but have been on several walks with the dogs. We live next to a National Forest and the terrain here is rocky and rough. The outer soles handle the rocks and cinders here with ease. I've been wearing them all day and they fit great and are very comfortable.
