Callibaetis nymphs can be found in most stillwaters. They are usually abundant around weedbeds and are most active in the morning hours until noon. Per 3.
Sizes: 10, 12, 14. Colors:(048)Gray, (412)Peacock, (561)Olive/Peacock.
I used this nymph in several New Jersey lakes and have caught tons of panfish, trout, and even a large mouth bass. They are durable and very effective. Every where i take them other fisherman ask me where they can get them from.
This nymph produces well at times when other callibaetis patterns don't. This pattern simulates both the callibaetis as well as chironomid, both prevelant in western stillwaters. I have had fish up to 10# take them even at the last minute of bringing the fly up to cast. I keep several dozen of these in my flybox at all times, and fish them consistantly from spring through to ice-over. It is worked best off the breaks of weed beds, both parrallel to, and perpindicular. Dry lines, or intermediate work best for me in the early a.m. and setting sun. I have picked up fish in the summer as well with a Type 3 uniform sink line.
