This sweater is pretty sweet to say the least. As for the poor reviews I found that is had no over powering smell, it did smell slightly like wool (like all wool clothing does), and it does rustle some when you wear it, but is by no means loud. Even if it smelled terrible and was really loud its a duck sweater not a bow hunting jacket.
Either way, it is windproof and quite warm, me and my brother both hunted in this a few days this season. Most of those trips we rode in a boat to our spot and one day we had winds upwards of 15-20mph and I was never cold, granted I had done some layering, I can attest that it is windproof.
Also it stay very warm even when temps dropped to the mid to upper 20's.
I paired it with a waxed vest and some hip boots for an old school duck hunting outfit and it looked great, my friends were jealous, and the ducks didn't mind at all especially the two woodies that came maybe 5 feet over my head the first morning I wore it.
It would have been nice if it had a zippered pocket in the middle of it but its not a big problem if you have a vest or waders.
This sweater is awesome, get it, its worth the full price and if you get it on sale its definitely worth it.

I have several Cabela's Jackets with Windshear product and I like them very much. However, this is the loudest clothing item I have ever tried on or handled. I bought this with the intention of using it as a mid layer for duck hunting. This sweater is so loud it's obnoxious. It sounds as bad as wearing a plastic garbage bag. My wife didn't know I was trying this sweater on and when I walked into the room she laughed out loud. She said she heard me the whole time and thought I was wadding up a plastic bag.
I have read a lot of people complain about Windshear being noisy but this is ridiculous. I would have given it a 1 but it seems like it would be warm at least. Also, I thought the sweater smells normal.
If you have hearing problems and you hunt solo and have no intentions of hunting anything that noise can be an issue this sweater will work otherwise find something else.

This appears to be a very well made vest,very heavy and thick,but it has such a bad odor from the wool that I could not stand to wear it.I had to return it.
