Great water filter

This seems to be a great lightweight filter for backpacking at around 1 lb.

Worth every penny
Date:
Excellent filter that does an outstanding job. I especially like being able to filter right to a drinking bottle. The water has a great taste and with proper care it will last a lifetime. everyone should have a filter like this if for nothing else than the ocassional emergency that can happen even right at home.

I have used the mini-works for about 10 years (off and on). It is one of the best filters on the market. Will filter clear and moderately murky water, but will clog quickly with muddy water. A coffee filter around the inlet is recommended (aftermarket pre-filters are available too). Will filter bacteria, but not tiny viruses. If water is questionable, use chlorine or iodine tabs, or a steri-pen after filtering with the mini-works. Ceramic is heavier than cheap paper-based filters, but it still only weighs about 1 pound. When filtering, use moderate pressure - it is more efficient than trying to use excessive force (the plastic handle is very sturdy, but not bomb-proof). I would not trade my mini-works for any other backpacking filter.
