An admittedly unconventional use

I purchased these NOT primarily for hiking, though I will use them for that purpose also, but for cycling in our Northwest drizzle. Even with good rain gear, there are times when water shed by those garments finds its way into shoes or boots. These gaiters, even though not claimed to be fully waterproof, effectively block that and continue channeling it downward to run off the shoe rather than through the lacing grommets. I was willing to gamble the low cost of these gaiters, since using them for their intended purpose is worth the price, but successfully gained a double advantage owning them.

I have tried various stone guards in the past, but the Cabela's Gaitors serve me best for protecting me from picking up stones and for putting on and taking off these protectors.

They are too tight to easily install and the zipper makes it more difficult. I would greatly prefer velcro strips to attach.

These worked better than the waders by far.

These met expectations unlike the Three Forks waders I bought them for. They kept gravel and dirt out of my boots when needed.
