Better then Expected
Date:
The first time you put this up. You will have a hard time. After that it will be easy as pie. I have a full size short bed truck. The straps need to be loose for it all to go up easier. I marked the awning poles. Longer one is for the back awning. This tent looks great and is truly a piece of heavy duty equipment. Most of its use will be during hunting season. I set it up in Dec after getting it. Holds heat in better then expected. Proper vent and window placement. For the summer months I have bought a "Truck-Beds" weekender air mattress for short camping trips. Winter hunts I will be placing a section of carpet down on the floor of the truck bed. Putting a "Cam Cot" in it for sleeping on, along with hunting gear. Plenty of room for movement, not closed in or stuffy. It will make for a comfy base camp for any truck owning camper/hunter out there. Trust me spend the little extra, get this canvas tent. If your putting this on a new truck. You might want some help with the poles. I can see where if you not careful they could do a number on your paint job.

Truck tent
Date:
I purchase mine when they first came out with fiberglass poles and have used it in temperatures down to the single digits. I throw down a couple of rugs to keep my feet warm and clean, and to cover the space between the truck bed and the tailgate. I then set up my cam o cot bunks with pads. This gives me enough room to stand and dress alongside the bunks. Sometimes I hang a set of clothes on the pole closest to the truck cab or I use a box for storage under the cot. I have a tray table at one end with a lantern and alarm clock (and maybe a snack or reading material). Underneath I have a pett dry toilet just in case. Between the head of the bunk and the door I have a soft cooler with "supplies".
The tent is very well thought out and designed. In a heavy rain the overhangs on each end allow enough of ventilation to feel comfortable. With all the windows opened there is a great cross breeze.
The Hydroshield treatment sheds water and as a result the canvas fabric doesn't swell from saturation or allow the water to pass through. So you can touch the inside of the tent while its raining and not worry. You also reap the benefit of having the whole tent breath better (and so do I). Another benefit of the Hydroshield is the fact that when it comes time to put the tent away, all you have to do is grab a side and shake the tent and the water just flys off. This greatly reduces the worry of packing a canvas tent.
There are attachment points on the outside for shock cord to help support the tent in a storm. I don't have any experience there yet (just rain storms). I also wonder how the overhangs would hold up under a decent windstorm. On cold nights the wind will find a way around the sides of the tailgate. I just stuff a couple of old towels there and problem solved.
This is a well thought out tent and its strengths greatly outshine its weaknesses. It sets up fast and easy. Its strong and well designed. Stuff it full of Cabelas gear and your ready to go.
Kudos Kodiak & Cabelas

Dream come true
Date:
Well, I finally got my kodiac canvas truck tent and it's awesome. Was it all I thought it would be? Well no it's pretty diffacult to put up by yourself especially after a long day of activaties. After putting up and down I decided to leave it up for the day and try driving with it nothing too extreme 30 mph max but it made life easier. After setting up camp my dog and I enjoyed a nice quiet weekend in Hotchkiss, Co. The Kodiac Canvas truck tents are all of what a truck tent should be. Tough rugged and dependable, also collapses into to small bags for convienient travel. The kodiac Canvas truck tents not only will fit on any fullsize truck but looks great on them too. I would recomind the kodiac Canvas truck tent to anyone looking to not sleep on the ground anymore and enjoy their weekend out camping.

followed instructions to the letter. cab/rear awning poles too long. over time will rip canvas. called maker. spoke to owner. pleasant conversation, but suggested a way to fix it or could send it back. shipping back too much trouble. had to cut and bend poles to make them right. looks ok now, should not have been necessary. time will tell.
