I purchased a vacuum sealer this year and then got these bags. They are the best things I ever purchased for home gardening, storing leftovers, storing sugar, etc. I have even sealed some family pictures that are over 50 years old before putting them away.
The greatest concept that I have come acrossed for jerky. But the bags wont stay sealed. What's the purpose of having a vacuum zippered bag if it doesnt stay sealed? I could skip the whole vacuuming concept and just go buy ziploc bags and save the time and trouble it takes to get these bags and seal them up. Complete waste of time and money. You would be better off getting the rolls of vacuum bags and sealing them without the zipper.
I just used several 6x10 zipper bags for a long backpacking trip. I have had no problems with the bags holding their vacuum (see other reviews), but I have had problems with the zipper portion tearing off when you remove the tab at the top. On several bags, the tear-off worked fine, on several others, the bag tore below the zipper--a real problem when I needed to "cook" in the bag after adding near-boiling water. If having a zipper is critical, I'll need to cut the top off with scissors or a knife since I can't trust the tear-off. On a more positive note, I have used the bags to boil foods with great success--seems like very tough plastic.
Purchased the 6"x10" size bags and 9 of 10 bags leak after sealing. My Cabelas sealer works well with other Cabelas bags so it's not the equipment. Just to be sure I increased the seal time but still have leaks. The factory seal looks fine but it's obvious the bag is leaking after only a few minutes. Go figure.
