Dirty cases may carry abrasive foreign particles that can scratch the insides of your precision reloading dies. This tumbler cleans and polishes brass to a slick, bright finish prior to loading so that your press and dies will operate more smoothly. Silent 110-volt operation. Holds up to 500 .38 Special cases.
Purchased a year ago but just got around to setting up and running. Easy set up and easy operation. Ran 3 loads and was extremely pleased. First time user of a tumbler but machine exceeded expectations. Shells did not come out shining bright, but that was more due to cheap media than tumbler. Shells vibrated through tub with excellent movement through media and ran extremely quiet once I tightened wing nuts. Fine product
I have run about 5000 handgun brass through this tumbler in the past 6 months and it does a great job. I usually run a batch over night and they come out looking like new brass in the morning. For the price it really does a quality job.
So I picked this up today at the Wheeling, WV Cabelas - about a 3 hour drive each way for me - and while I would not have made the drive for this alone, this tumbler is worth the trip. I've had another tumbler, the Rockford Arsenal one, which is near as I can tell identical to the Cabelas store brand. And while it did a god job, it wasn't very quick or very quiet. It was so loud in fact that even when I had it in the garage with the door closed, the neighbor asked me what that weird sound was. Until it broke after less than 100 hours total run time.
The Hornady is running in my office as I type this. It's virtually a whisper of its predecessor. The wife is in the next room and did not even know it was on until it finished cleaning it's first batch of 100 9mm - maybe an hour after I started it. Way faster than the Rockford, which usually took a few hours.
I don't know if it's the geometry of the bowl, this motor's oscillation pattern or what, but this guy's a real winner.
While somewhat smaller compared to some tumblers on the market, this tumbler will handle most reloader's needs. I purchased the Hornady over the RCBS due to the price difference.
