I replaced a dented standard tailgate on my pickup with a Stromberg Carlson 5th wheel tailgate. It fit well and went on easily. I now no longer have to worry about hitting my trailer jack on the tailgate. It is lightweight ,functional, and attractive. Fine product.

Cheap & Flimsy

My husband and I debated between this tailgate and the lesser product which was much less expensive. We decided that we'd get what we paid for so we went with the better one. It was not on sale at the time. We had it less than three weeks before it broke.
It looks nice, but once installed you realize that you cannot put ANY weight on it. You cannot step on to or put any weight on this tailgate. It's plastic!! It bends when you throw one sack of feed across it. I cannot even load my trashcan in to the back without significant flex. Now it's useless as the cables are broken and I've only had it since Thanksgiving.
If we could send it back we would. I am a pretty forgiving person, but this is pathetic.

Fifth wheel tailgate

The tailgate I purchased came with inferior cable stops used to adjust the cable tension on the opening of the tailgate. The cable stops were made of a thin grade of aluminum, and they each broke as I tried to tighten and adjust the open and close mechanism. I subsequently went to a hardware store, a bicycle shop and two lawn mower repair shops before I found cable stops made out of brass. Now it works fine.
