About EChips ... This tiny device is not only increasing the success of fishermen using it, but may revolutionize fishing with artificial baits and lures. It consists of a small stainless steel tube with a stainless ball inside and a small ceramic crystal inside one end of the tube. As the ball rolls back and forth with the motion of the lure, an electronic impulse duplicating that of a wounded baitfish is emitted. Predator fish in the area sense the simulated nerve discharges and are more likely to strike. 3 per pack.

    Pro-Troll EChip Bait Holder

We fish the Columbia River just about every year for Chinook and Coho salmon. Most people are using Herring, Anchovie or spinners.
A lot of people are very skilled at plug cutting Herring. You can buy a jig or cut a Herring yourself. For most it is a learning game and if the bait isn't right your not going to catch anything.
I tried the Pro-Troll Bait holder a couple years ago and we had pretty good success. The main thing I liked is I knew most of the time my Herring is working correctly. I don't know about the eChip thing I guess it works but my main concern is Presentation and that the bait holder holds the bait and the rudder gives it an action that the salmon like.
I bought some bait holders and had to rig myself. Seems simple but the trick I had trouble with was placing the two hooks correctly on the Herring. The hooks have to be positioned right to hook a salmon when they grab it. I tried to insert in the lateral line with each hook pointing the opposite direction. I think there is a better way.
If like me you seem to have nothing but trouble with plug cut Herring the Pro-Troll Bait holder does work.
I also wrote Pro-Troll and no answer yet.

About the only lure I use for laketrout.Simply out-performs everything else. Catches fish when other boats are circling around you. I would give it five stars but the e-chips fall out due to poor gluing. Hade to re-enforce, not sure if echip really makes a difference. But the fish love the lure!

The clips did not come with a diagram to show how to rig it to the leader. I contacted the company and they sent an email which did not adress the issue.
The guide figured out the way to rig the clip. It worked well to hold the bait and bait strip. I tried the red, chartrusse and white holders. They were tested with a hoochie trolled at the same time from a different downrigger and we switched sides several times. In eight hours not on hit on the EChip. All the fish were taken on the hoochie.
While the guide liked the no toothpick feature the salmon were nonresponsive.
