The old Canvas bags were not in any way water proof, and the snaps were a pain and less adjustable on the rails but that is the only improvement these have over the Old style bags. They are now in a cabinet forever lost, They are a burr magnet and start shredding at every seam. Very disappointed in the cheap new improved? version of these as they are lighter yes at about 3 oz. less, but come on.... the weight is in the cargo not the bag. Sorry summit 2 is a top rating on these...go back to heavy canvas.
I purchased a set of bags in September 2010 just before archery whitail season. The bags are already starting to come a part and they are only a few months old. One of the velcro straps have ripped off and i might add are very noisy. The zipper on the right hand bag has already broke and are also very noisy. The material the bags are made of are not tough enough for what they are designed for.
I love my Summit Viper stand, but wanted better side bags than the cheaper, older designed ones. These are a nice improvement, but still need time at the designer's table.
First of all, the zippers are way too noisy. There are many better zippers on the market, why they would use these is beyond me. Second is the Velcro attachment straps. They work great until you stand up, and the strap tab catches your jacket or parka, then the evil velcro tear sound begins. Third, the drink holder. This appears to be a great idea, but with it on the top end, your water bottle is up under your arm, not down by your hands where you could get to it easily and with little movement. Lastly, the magnet catches on the inner pockets are a nice touch, but instead of a simple sewn in magnet, such as we find in a portable blind, these are a bit fancier, but will only catch when precisely put together, usually requiring both hands.
Sorry, but these are going back. Hopefully, Summit will improve upon them more in the future.
