NOT What I Expected
Date:
I received the adjustable gun rest today and have spent literally the last THREE HOURS attempting to install it on my Viper. The mounting brackets have been machined to be the exact size as the stand arms instead of being machined to fit OVER the stand arms as the instructions called for. The brackets were so small that as they went over the stand arms they spread significantly where the bolts were supposed to go through and the bolt holes were pre-drilled so that half of the hole was still behind the stand arm preventing the bolts from going through. I had to drill out the inside hole to a larger diameter and drill a second hole on the outside for the bolt. Then, due to spread the bolts run through on an angle and do not secure the mounting brackets as solidly as I had hoped. However, once you get the rest in the position you want and lock it down it seems to be pretty solid but adjustment is VERY difficult due to the bolts being out of position. The rest is installed in a fashion "good enough" to work but the is definitely not the quality that I have come to expect from Summit!

Gun rest
Date:
I attached the gun rest to my tree stand but have not had a chance to use it yet. It appears that it will work fine but I did have an issue with another extra that I purchased from Summit. That was the gun holder that attaches to the tree stand also. With the wing nuts to secure the gun rest, they get in the way of where the gun barrel would be if you used this accessory also. I will see if I can work around this problem after the season is over.
However, in the meantime, I attached the gun holder pieces to the gun rest and figure the gun can remain there until needed. Again, I haven\u2019t used the tree stand during the season yet and my concern is that the gun rest will be able to support the weight of the shotgun or muzzleloader. Not a good situation if it can not support the weight and the gun falls down from the tree stand. If there is any doubt, I\u2019ll hang it from the tree as before.
