Lasted on airline trip
Date:
Upon boarding for a second leg of a trip I was contacted by a bagage foreman to tell me the lock had "fallen apart, just exploded". It was a new case and it was apparent that no harsh handling was involved. The case was unmarked. The handler couldn't explain it but had all the parts in his hand. None seemed scratched or dented. Since I had no spare lock, they furnished a free Keyed lock so I could continue my trip.

Safe Skies TSA Locks
Date:
DO NOT BUY THESE LOCKS. I made the mistake and almost didn't get to bring my newly purchased gun home on the plane. The locks create the worst possible situation. Mine worked once, so when I arrived at the airport, they were already seized up and would not open with the combination. TSA was kind enough to hear my explanation and walk my bag through after opening the lock with their key. When I arrived home, I had to cut the locks off of my suitcase and the gun case. What a waste of money and time. Be warned if you buy these locks you will have nothing but problems with them.

TSA Locks are not approved for locking firearms
Date:
For Firearms transportation TSA regulations state:
The container must be locked and only the passenger may retain the key or combination (TSA Recognized Baggage Locks Not Allowed).
Note that "only the passenger" may know the combination or have a key (if a keyed lock). A TSA recognized baggage lock does NOT meet this requirement as TSA personnel have access to the combination or have a master key.
If you really want to use this or any other TSA approved lock to secure your firearms, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. You may face a $10,000 fine and/or criminal charges as well as risk losing your firearm.
Cabelas should remove reference of firearm locking from this and all TSA Approved locks.

Safeskies Locks
Date:
Do not buy these locks. The internal mechanisms do not seem to work properly. When we arrived in Zambia I had to break open the zipper on the duffle bag containing my ammunition in order for Zambian Customs authorities to inspect my ammo. We ended up cutting off the lock with a hacksaw, a second lock then failed and had to be cut. These were set with my combination and worked when we left home but could not be opened when we arrived overseas. This is a terrible product.
