A little large
Date:
Easy to install and well made. Problem is the v-rest is made for a large motor, not a 15 or 20 hp. The rest is too large and the motor wants to turn during trailering needing the use of extra tie-downs to keep the motor from flopping to the side.

Good quality, some design flaws
Date:
I have no problems with the quality of the metal work to manufacture this transom saver. Very solid, durable and glad to see it's American made here in the Good ol’ USA! In spite of the quality of this product, I found several design issues which could have made this a 5 star product for me. As stated by others, the directions look like copies of a handwritten note. Inexcusable in this day and age of computers and word processors. Not the best directions but not hard to figure out either. The mounting plate that attaches to the trailer has two holes drilled into it which makes no sense to me based how they were positioned and spaced. However, I was able to secure it with one bolt using an existing hole in my trailer frame. I did have to go to the hardware store and purchase a longer bolt for mounting the plate to the trailer. Next, the part that twists and inserts into the plate goes in and out just fine for ease of removal when launching your boat. My concern here is should your motor some how bounce loose and the transom saver drops and bounces, I can see the possibility of losing the transom saver down the road and you would never know it. It would have been nice if this end piece was designed with a retaining pin or cotter pin or at a minimum the tip pre-drilled with a hole to allow for this feature to be added by the consumer. The rubber strap that secures the motor to the transom saver only came in a 15in size and for my 8hp 4 stroke was too long. Tried to double wrap it and then it was too short. Would have been nice to include several different size straps or a strap you can adjust by having multiple holes like a belt or have a design with one strap with different adjustments on the transom saver where I could have adjusted the rubber strap to the required tightness. Overall it gets the job done but I did have to purchase more items and do some tweaking to get it to work.

Takes Some Work To Install Securely
Date:
I purchased this unit to install on a Lowe FM165 w/trailer package. The instructions that come with the unit look like someone wrote them by hand, not very professional looking; the included bungee cord is about a foot too short to wrap around my 50hp Mercury engine so most likely I will need to purchase a longer one; most likely you will need to bolt the bracket to the trailer frame using two bolts (bolts not included). Chances are you will need to drill a couple of holes in the trailer frame, not an easy task if the boat is on the trailer. Unless you have a 90 degree drill you probably won’t have enough clearance between the pavement and the frame to drill holes. It’s a sturdy unit, just takes some work to attach it securely.

Worth every cent!
Date:
I ordered one of these devices when I found some small stress cracks in the gel-coat around the corners of my transom. I repaired the cracks, started using the transom saver, and to date, I haven't had any more cracks. An added benefit is, because the motor is tilted up, the lower unit skeg is further from the road surface and lees prone to damage.
