Minn Kota® Vantage 80 Motor

Workhorse and dependable Vantage trolling motors from Minn Kota take you where the fish are biting. An electric power stow and deploy system allows you to raise and lower the motor with just the push of a button, eliminating the need for heavy lifting. Four-to-one 360° articulated steering allows for full motor rotation with just 90° of tiller movement. With 7-1/2" of additional travel, the fully extended tiller handle measures 31". A dual-purpose directional indicator shows the direction of travel and can be instantly turned on the water for backtrolling. The adjustable transom bracket means the motor will fit on boat transoms that measure between 14" and 28" high. Maximizer™ variable speed control delivers five times more power than standard motors on a single battery charge. The Weedless Wedge™ 2 is the next generation of legendary weedless prop technology from Minn Kota. This new design features swept-back and flared blades to "wedge" weeds away for the ultimate in weedless prop performance. Allows you to glide effortlessly through thick aquatic vegetation without battery draining chopping and hacking. Motors also have breakaway mounting bracket and lower automatic unit positioning. Runs on 24-volts and delivers 80 pounds of thrust.

Vantage - a great backtrolling tool
Date:
I included a Vantage 80 24-volt as part of my boat package purchased from Cabela's this year. I had a Vantage on my previous boat and had only one service problem in 8 years of heavy use. The push-button power stow and deploy is effortless and a real plus for someone like myself who has back problems and changes fishing spots frequently. I backtroll for walleyes about 90% of the time and have never run out of power with the Maximizer feature with variable speed control. The 4:1 articulated steering allows you to change direction 180 degrees without running the handle into your gas motor. The longer built-in extension handle allows for use either sitting or standing, even on larger boats. You can spend a lot less on a transom trolling motor, but if you fish a lot like I do, the investment may well be worth the extra cost.

Design Flaw with Vantage
Date:
I initially loved my Vantage but I began to experience intermittent dead spots on the rheostat dial. I was told by MinnKota it is overuse of one speed! Well everytime it rained my dial would again experience the stop/start of the motor till finally it died! Not willing to take off the motor and mail it in as MinnKota requested (no small feat and in the middle of the walleye bite) I ran out and purchased another Vantage. One year later, same exact problem, MinnKota has come up with a "replacement" board for the Vantage but claims no design issue nor recall. Personally, the rheostat reel is vertical to the handle with a space on either side allowing rain water to enter the circuitry of the controls......bad design in my estimation! I had to buy a new circuit board to have it replaced! Their customer service is not so customer friendly!

THIS MOTOR IS NOT CHEEP. BUT IT IS BUILT GOOD AND WORKS NICE. ALOT LESS WORK THAN THE MANUAL TYPE. AND SOO MUCH POWER. I HAVE THIS ON MY 14 FOOT JON BOAT. DO A LOT OF FISHING ON ELECTRIC ONLY LAKES WITH A LOT OF WIND. THIS THING WORKS GREAT..
