I have a Bushnell camera similar to this one and for the first few tims I used it I noticed the battery life was very short. Then I noticed that if you do alternate all 8 batteries. The trick is in the placement....the two middle batteries are arranged the same. This gives six volts for four batteries and still six volts for the eight batteries but with a long er life (more amps.) This is how you can use it with either four or eight batteries. LOOK AT THE BATTERY PLACEMENT DIAGRAM. After I installed mine properly I get months and months out of the eight AA Duracells. Good cameras ....just need to read the directions!
I have used a number of cameras and this is the best one. I am in a maritime climate and other camers do not work well as I had to keep sending them back until I realizied I could bring them in the house and dry the camera out and the camera would start working again. The only problem that I have had with this one is moisture condensing at night on the lens making what triggered the camera blurred and hard to make out. By mornig the lens has cleared and the shots are back to normal. The visible ir on other cameras spooks game. I think they think it is an eye of a predator. This one does not and unlike the visible IR does not attract bears to the camera. Great battery life. If they go on sale I will be getting more and selling my other camera's
This was my first Bushnell, after owning several other brands over the past 8 or so years. I had moved to IR models due to the way the FLASH cams spook deer. (In my experience with flash cams have much better picture quality at night, but they tend to spook deer after one or two shots... and that's the last thing you want is having a device that spooks deer away from your plots, trails, etc.) IR models have been a great improvement over flash when it comes to reducing the spook factor however, deer still hear and can see the IR to an extent with most cameras. (If you test standard IR models at night, you-and deer can visibly see the IR). Long story short I was excited about the Bushnell HD Trophy Cam for 3 reasons. 1. "black IR" option is less visible than the IR... almost completely undetectable... I have tested & it works as advertised. 2. 8MP quality option is a great improvement in picture quality. [The pictures I have are the best of any camera I have.] 3. Six to 12 Months of Battery Life... [ My results - Going on 3 months now, with one set of lithium AA batteries and over 5,000 pictures taken. Indicator still shows full battery life] - With my older cameras, I find myself changing out bulky C&D batteries on a monthly basis if not more. This Bushnell quickly pays for itself in battery savings alone. Very Very Pleased with this camera so far and I would highly recommend it. I will be purchasing another very soon. I did not opt for the version with a built in viewer because I just swap out SD Cards and view on my computer.
I had this given to me as a 2010 Christmas present, put the lithum battries in it and put it in the woods till several days ago the battery's were dead. I brought it home and replaced them and tried to get the time adjusted but the lcd screen was black. Called Bushnell on hold for almost 1 hour. to have them say send it back with the reciept. It is 8 months later best I can do is a credit card statement. I sent it back in July 1, 2011 haven't heard from them yet. Yes the received it I have the tracking number. Granted I have some unbelievable video and pictures. I had a blast with it but now it time to scout and the camera is in the shop. Will update everyone when Bushnell get back to me!!
