Excellent Small Game Rifle
Date:
I bought my Crockett over 10 years ago for much less than the current price. Accuracy is excellent plus with 1" groups attainable up to 50yds with 30grns Goex 3F, .311" ball from a Lee mold and .020" ticking patches. It is a perfect companion for the squirrel woods. Fit and finish are very good - though the trigger guard could be roomier - and reliability is excellent. It's hard to come up with a complaint though the current price is too much. I recommend this rifle without qualification.

Crockett .32 cap & ball
Date:
This is a good piece, some brass furniture. All the metal to wood fittings are nice and clean.Aluminum ram rod, it works? This rifle arrived on a Thursday, after cleaning it. I took it to the range with a box of self cast .310 balls, some lubed .015 patches and FFF powder. I started with 20 grain charge @ 10 yards off the bench. 2" low.Moved to 25 yards of the bench same charge -3 rounds all touching each other 1" low. After a field cleaning. Three more rounds at 50 yards, 25 grain charge all touching each other and cutting the 1" bull. I am quite impressed with the accuracy out to 50 yards. Though I was sitting at a shooting bench I was holding the rifle(no sand bags)

Davy Crockett did not have an aluminum ramrod
Date:
The aluminum ramrod on this rifle is not good. Hickory would have been better so I made one. One of the problems with this cal is the fact there is no one or few making conical or minnie balls for this rifle. It shoots a 311 round ball very well to 25 yards. After that its anyones guess! Castting your own bullets is a must with this cal. Roundballs have no range. The mfg is not supplying a range of accessories for the .32 Otherwise it is well made having a superb barrel drum. It is a handsome rifle with well finished brass trim and a deep cut bore. It is too bad there are few after market folks making .32 cal bullets and accessories. However it is worth buying and shooting! I live in Montana and love to shoot all kinds of guns. Blackpowder is probably the most fun!
