1842 Springfield Smoothbore Musket

The first arm made at both the Harper’s Ferry and Springfield Armories with completely interchangeable parts. More than 250,000 1842 Smoothbore Muskets were built from 1844 to 1855. This version’s lock and tang are dated 1847. Even the stamps are correct, from the V.P. and eagle-head proof marks on the barrel to the U.S. buttplate marking. One-piece oil-finish walnut stock. .69 caliber.
