IT WORKS
Date:April 3, 2012
Release worked very well. quick and easy. You never have to touch the fish. Bigger fish can have hooked removed in the net and hook usually stays in the hook remover and doesn't tangle in net. I lOVE it.
Item does indeed work but takes some getting used to. I snapped off several flies along with the trout.
Barbless hooks and slack lines (a better idea) do a better release.
But if you crimp your barb or use microbarbs this tool is a ghood idea. Also, it keeps the fish in the water / untouched and therefor less prone to death after release.
However you release, don't squeeze the trout and leave it in the water - ezpecially if its hot out.
Tool performs very well provided you slide the tool all the way to the bend of the hook. The tool is not designed to hold the weight of a big fish unless you seat the hook shank deep into the tool. This is my second tool in the the average size. Works really well in a float tube, boat or from shore. I have retrieved flies from salmon, steelhead and trout with mine hundreds of times. This tool really has cut down on the damage to my flies. I used to use needlenose but they took too long and many times damaged the fly. I hate to mess up a fly that just caught a fish and then tie on an unproven one. Great tool - must have!
