Dr. Slick Catch & Release Hemostats

Perform smooth hands-free releases that won't harm your catch. The fully functional 5-1/2" hemostat has a slotted release tube that quickly slips over your tippet and down to the fly. A quick push of the clamp disengages the hook. Best suited for flies #12-18.
Available: Gold, Black.

Slick Release Clamp
Date:
I had a pair of these that I used for years. They were the medium tube. I loved them. I used them to remove hooks up to size 8 but they worked well with #18 sized hooks as well. I purchased a Ketchum Release first and I think it works a little better but the hemos are always clamped to my shirt or jacket on my left shoulder so they are always handy. I finally lost my 5" clamp so I purchased the 5.5" as I couldn't find the 5" anywhere. The 5.5" is too large for most of my fishing. For using big hoppers or salmon flies they work well but you can just use your fingers on a fly that big. A size #18 fly gets lost especially if you are working on the small mouth of a whitefish. Highly recommend but would prefer the medium tube.

Great quality but don't like the style
Date:
I'm new to fly fishing. I finally decided to to take the plunge and get geared up. What I don't like about these is the style. They have an angled clamp and a slotted release tube that really work well, but don't fit in the built-in pocket in my vest becase the tip is too bulky. This means I either have to hang them on a d ring or put them in a zipper pocket. Neither of which work well when you have a fish in one hand and need to grab these with the other. For me, I would rather put them in the built in pocket in my vest. Next time, I would buy a simpler version without the angled tip and release tube. It's really is a matter of personal taste and where/how you plan to store them when fishing. If you are looking for this style, they are great. I just didn't think it through before i made the purchase.

Too big for trout
Date:
These are only available in size large which relly is only suitable for med-large saltwater flies (where proper pliers would suit better) or the largest of streamers & poppers. They are well-made and if that size suits you, go for it, but they are way too big for most freshwater applications.
