Worst buy
Date:
I am 69 and needed help with my 17 boat at the dock. Bought the TRAC winch and disaster. Mounting in trailer was difficult, no space, the remote could not be attached (factory told me to take it apart, move something out and glue it with epoxy), it would not pull the boat the last foot, tried using the crank at the same time and it slipped and the motor burned, Take it out of your fine catalog (my first review ever)

I thought that it really couldn't be as bad as the reviews or Cabellas wouldn't sell it. Not only did the winch not even work (except for the light), the hand crank stripped when I was still 6 inches away and I had no way to finish loading the boat. This will be returned immediately and I will get something that works. The install was easy but unless your loading a canoe, stay away from this. My boat was way under the weight limit and it didn't matter.

I decided to try this product, despite all of the poor ratings that I had read. In hindsight, I wish I would have listened to the reviews. It simply does not work as advertised. As it pulls my boat up the roller trailer, the motor sounds as if it's going to die at any moment, and in fact it just eventually stops pulling (about 6 feet short). It is a poor product and Cabelas should stop selling it plain and simple.

poor product
Date:
I purchased this to use on my trailer for a 16 foot jon boat with a 40 hp motor. I bought a unit rated for twice the capacity of my boat but it wouldnt even pull my small boat. the problem is the clutch. its very poorly designed. I took it apart and made special washers with a large diameter and relieved the contact surface except at the extreme face, thereby causing the contact to be made at a larger surface on the clutch and it greatly improved the winch pulling power. but how many people have a lathe to do this? you shouldnt have to redesign something that you pay good money for to made it function. very poor product. dont waste your money
