Bought this fly to use while fishing some small slack water in GA...and some Mill Ponds and their tailwater. I thought this would be killer for Panfish. Now, I'm not a guide...but I know what I'm doing (just wanted to get that outta the way). The fly arrived on a Thurs (with a bunch of others)..I was excited to get out on the water the following Sat and try some of my new flies (I had ideas of when and where I would use them....like a kid at christmas, I laid in bed thinking about it). So...first fly up....the Spidey Sense. I bought it in white. First cast.....a few fish look at it and I think I heard laughter. Next cast, nothing. Then....the legs get tangled. Untangle. Next the legs tangle into my tippet while the line is folding out onto the water. BIG MESS. Untangle legs, cut tippet. Re-tie tippet. About ten minutes more and the same thing. The fly goes back into the box. I few weeks later I brought it out again thinking I needed to give it another chance (different water)...same results. Fish look at it like someone naked in church. Tangles. A month goes by. Last night I'm catching some bluegill....caught a bass...and a mean chain pickerel..all in a small tailwater. I'm in such good mood I decide to give the spidey another chance. Same mess all over again. NO MORE. What a waste of time and money. If you want mine, I'll mail it to you. It takes up space in my fly box....and is better at catching line than fish. Last night I actually spent 30min in the dark out in the middle of nowhere working to get the fly untangled so I wouldn't have to cut my leader!!! I was actually cussing at the spider...I'm glad I was out in the middle of nowhere. If you want a good terrestrial...get ants....damsels...hoppers.....or another brand of spider. Avoid this one. Like I said, if you think I'm full of it...I'll mail you mine...it can be your problem then.
I bought this to go after panfish. Nice fly but the hackle fell off after only a few uses. Still continues to catch bluegill, though. Would be a better value at a little less cost.
