Excellent sun protection without overheating
Date:
I was looking for cool, sun protection while fishing and playing softball. I’ve tried this (current version is Gen 2 Freezer™ long sleeve - UPF 50, loose fit), Columbia’s Airgill™ long-sleeve knit crew (UPF 50, loose fit), and another manufacturer's (UPF 30+, snug but not compression fit). All three do an excellent job of sun protection and are cooler than any cotton fiber or my usual fishing shirts. But don’t expect to feel like you’re wearing something that provides air conditioning (unless you dunk it in the bottom of the ice cooler and put it back on). I’ve been using them for over a year. I can’t notice any significant cooling advantage to the Airgill design. My net is pick based on style/fit/price. Add a neck/head wrap and sun-protection fingerless gloves and you can dispense with most of your messy sun screen.
