Highly recommend this product. Take your time! Hand tighten screws to skull plate with screw driver to keep from cracking it. I have read some have done this. I would suggest this product to others that were good with hand tools.
Bought this product to use on a set of antlers from last season. I was very pleased with it. Just take your time fitting the skull plate, and follow the directions. I did not take quite enough skull off, but it all blended in with the epoxy. I plan on getting another kit in the future. I highly recomend this product. Don't get discouraged if your skull is not as wide as the reproduction, just blend it in with the epoxy. the epoxy is easily smoothed with a wet fingertip. Once dry, it can be sanded to blend in perfectly.
I have a few good racks from years past that were just sitting in the garage so I picked up a few of these kits. The installation was easy and the included DVD was very informative. It took a few attempts to cut the skull plate for a good fit, but with some patience it worked very well. A sawzall and a good sander really make it easy. Like anything you cut, take a little bit at a time and you're set. I was worried that there wasn't enough epoxy to cover but I was wrong. What a nice suprise. Keep your fingers moist and push the exopy with a finger, don't try to spread it like putty. Once its covered, smooth it out with a wet finger tip and your done! A good coat of primer really makes a difference too. This is a GREAT product, and total time to complete was easily under an hour.
I love the idea and had a couple of different sets of antlers that I wanted to use with this product. Cracked one skull plate attaching the screws...cracked another skull plate putting it together...finally got one to work well enough (after splitting yet another skull plate with the screws). Finished product is great and I am honestly happy that I used this product. Process is not the easiest and I would recommend being extremely careful drilling and screwing. I'm not a careless person and followed the directions and managed to crack quite a bit of bone. My suggestion is to oversize the drill bit one size (9/64 rather than 1/8) and be extremely careful tightening the screws. Good luck, you will be happy with the final product.
