Cabela's Red Ripcord™ Si Plus Line - 400 Yards

  • Microfilament polyester tracer for improved performance
  • Increased stretch makes the line more forgiving
  • Silicone coating provides less friction
The hybrid-braid Spectra construction incorporates a microfilament nylon fiber with the braid. This hybrid construction produces a braid that is ideally suited for casting and spinning. The unique braid has increased body for less rod-tip wraps, higher abrasion resistance, and higher knot strength over traditional braided lines. The hybrid construction increases stretch to a maximum of 5%, making the line more forgiving for demanding conditions where increased shock loading occurs. The silicone coating provides less friction, helps cast farther and last longer.

I was very displeased with the line. I fish the ohio river 2 to 3 days a week for big catfish. The first day that I used this new line I had a big fish on only to have the line to break. I am sure that the fish did not weigh more than 30 lbs. I had been using a braided line by Cortland and not once had I had it broken. I have caught many fish in the 30 to 40 lb. range, my biggest being 52 lbs.

I USED THIS LINE ON A CABELAS SALT STRICKER SPINNING REEL IN VENICE LA.THE LINE WAS 2OLB TEST.ICAUGHT TWO RED SNAPPER ABOUT 14FT DEEP.I THEN NOTICED THE LINE HAD FRAYED BADLY WHEN PASSING THRU THE GUIDES.IT WAS AS IF THE LINE JUST MELTED.THESE FISH WERE NOT BIG.ONLY ABOUT 5LBS.I SWITCHED TO POWER PRO BRAID AND CAUGHT 5 REDS AND ABOUT 50 SPECKELED TROUT AND HAD NO PROBLEM AT ALL.

I loaded up a Shakespeare trolling reel with 30# green last year and took it to Aruba last December. It performed beautifully. I returned and picked up two Salt Striker reels for my trip to Pine Key in May and return to Aruba in December. When I thought about what line to put on them, the choice was simple. I choose Rip Chord 50# for the heavy reel and 30# for the medium. It loads easy, you have maximum strenth and minimum bulk. It does not kink, and has no memory. You can put enough line to deal with a really long run on a big fish. My only quandrum was what color to get. I went red for supposed invisibility. That probably matters little considering you put a leader on.

Casts well but sinks

This line casts very well and resists wind knots better than most braids due to the nylon strand incorporated into it. However, the nylon absorbs water and after a few of hours of fishing it will begin to sink, making it difficult to use with a bobber rig and requiring you to downsize sinkers throughout the day with any rig. Otherwise a good product.
