Floating basket
Date:
It is a great way to keep your fish. Just make sure you wire the bottom trap shut. When I fish in the spring, I keep my crappie in one basket and my catfish in the other basket.

poor quality item
Date:
Have only had this for 2 months and already it is falling apart. The wire is brittle and breaking everywhere. I have lost some nice fish! I live on a fereshwater lake so I can't blame salt water . I guess you get what you pay for, my old one from 10 years ago was made with better wire.

Tie the bottom door shut
Date:
These are great for keeping fish alive while fishing from shore or a float tube. They can be used in boats without livewells too, as long as you lift them from the water when moving.
As mentioned by other reviewers, you want to permanently close the bottom door. Sometimes the pressure of the basket hitting the water will cause it to open, or a fish will slide down the inside and get its nose underneath when you lift it. I tied mine shut with line, but a plastic zip tie works great too. You can still get the fish out of the top door.
My last one lasted about 10 years before it finally got a hole in it. Hopefully the new one will last as long.
