Night-unveiling color definition you'll have to see to believe! Cabela's UDI (Ultra Definition Illumination) technology is a groundbreaking advancement in personal light sources.

It's uncommon for a truly unique advancement to hit the outdoor market, but the Cabela's XPG UDI is no common light source.

The equipment-unfriendly flooded timber of southeast Arkansas was the grueling testing ground for this incredible flashlight. With temperatures plummeting to single digits, our green-timber mallard hunt quickly became a frozen adventure. The UDI flashlight's maiden voyage transformed from "trial by fire" to "trial by ice."

I used the N-9 model, which operates on three CR-123 lithium batteries. This model blends superior power with minimal weight, matching my flashlight preferences. When both hands were required to fuel a generator or cook breakfast in a duck boat, I found the grooved end cap perfect for a secure hold between the teeth. The o-ring-sealed nylon body was never submerged during my testing, though it did become ice-encased in my waterlogged shooting bag with no effect on performance or operation.

Of course, the incredible UDI light beam is the centerpiece of this reliable unit. By emitting light in a specific color spectrum, true-color images pop out of dark environments. When compared side-by-side with standard LED beams, the difference is startling and apparent – UDI produces superior color definition. The "blue" light of standard LEDs, while often powerfully far-reaching, "washes" color from its target. UDI eliminates this effect with its yellow-white beam of perfectly color-balanced light.

The UDI flashlight shoots a night-slashing beam that will impress even the most particular flashlight aficionados. The two-stage tail cap changes from high to low light output with a gentle tap, very handy as the high-output 136-lumen beam would be a bit overpowering for close-in work.

For its minimal weight and extreme durability, the XPG UDI packs more than enough light-giving power for general camp and field use. Plus, its size makes it a perfect for at-the-ready storage in vehicles and at home.
