There are a lot of options in quiet hunting rainwear. However, the choice recently became a lot simpler with Cabela's Rain Suede. This great product line is based on the new Rain Suede fabric.
Aptly named, the micro-denier shell fabric is soft as suede with a very small nap. What this means to you is a fabric that is very quiet and lets you maintain a quiet approach. Unlike higher nap fleece, the fabric remains free of burrs, seeds, and other goodies that try to cling to you as you make your way through the woods.
Stay Dry
Whether you need protection form the rain, snow, wind, or even just a chilly morning, Rain Suede gets it done. Rain Suede incorporates Cabela's exclusive Dry-Plus® laminate, making the entire garments waterproof and breathable. If you're doing some heavy climbing and really pumping out the perspiration, a moisture-wicking mesh liner transports it out to the membrane where it quickly leaves the jacket. Translated - it keeps you dry. Storm flaps, flap pockets, and a three-piece hood allow you to effectively seal out the elements, even pouring rain.

Packable
Both the parka and pants are packable. On each, there is an internal pocket that you can stuff the garment into. Completely stuffed, the jacket and pants fit nicely in your fanny pack or game bag. Then you can put them on or take them off as the weather dictates.
Tested in Harsh Conditions
I was able to give the Cabela's Rain Suede rainwear a thorough test in our spring turkey season. I thought it would be a good idea to take it along, just in case it rained. I was glad I did. The first day it rained and the wind was howling. Then, the temperature dropped and turned the surroundings into a frozen crystal landscape. The rain continued to fall, alternating with some snow. It wasn't your typical spring weather, and I was happy to have my Rain Suede. I zipped up, battened down the hatches, and the driving wind and rain couldn't touch me.

On this trip, we logged plenty of miles climbing steep ridges, and I put off some serious heat and sweat. The Dry-Plus laminate performed great and kept me from getting soaked with perspiration - which would have been bad news considering the temperature was below freezing. When the weather finally did clear on the third day and it became too warm for rainwear, I simply packed them up and put them in my vest. On this trip, my Rain Suede is what kept me happy and, in my opinion, was worth twice its cost.
Just because it is lightweight and packable does not mean that Rain Suede is only for warmer weather. I, myself, am a big fan of lightweight jackets. Then, I can manage my under layers and stay comfortable. On this turkey trip, the mercury dipped to 24 degrees F, and with a light fleece jacket underneath, I was just fine. When it did warm up, I simply shed layers to match the conditions.
Unbeatable Value and Options
The best thing about Rain Suede is the price. I cannot find a better value in rainwear anywhere on the market. Just because it is value priced does not mean that you are getting a stripped down model. Cabela's has built a very technical set of rainwear and even included double knees, seats, and elbows to give you durable protection where you need it most.

Usually, you have to settle for only a few camo patterns when looking at outerwear. Most manufacturers can only afford to offer a few options. However, Rain Suede is available in multiple camo patterns. Wherever you hunt and whatever pattern you prefer, concealment will not be a problem. With sizes in regular and tall to 3XL and women's sizes too, Rain Suede, like all Cabela's clothing, is designed to be for almost everyone.
If that is not convincing enough for you, Cabela's stands behind their new product with an Iron-Clad Guarantee. They invite you to try the new Dry-Plus Rain Suede for 60 days. They know that once you try a set, you'll love it too. However, if you're not fully satisfied, simply return it for a full refund. They are sure you will agree that this is the best value in hunting rainwear.
