Cabela's Outfitter XL Cot Field Test

I have used the Cabela's Outfitter XL cot on hunts from Alaska to the prairies of western Canada. The XL cot is big, strong and super comfortable.

Author: Ian McMurchy

The cot sits high enough above the floor that large gear like gun cases, duffels and backpacks can be stored below.

Dimensions of this cot are 85 inches long, 40 inches wide and it stands 19 inches above the floor of the tent. Each cot comes in a nicely made nylon bag that is large enough for easy insertion and withdrawal of the cot and the two end braces.

The cot essentially unfolds a couple of times into the base unit - it is an all-in-one unit except for two cross-braces that fit at each end. Assembly cannot be any simpler. You just unfold it where you want it in the tent and position the cross-braces at each end. Takes about the same amount of time than it did for me to type this paragraph!

A word of warning - and this is mentioned in the setup instructions - the cot cover is very precisely fitted which makes placing the end-braces somewhat difficult. I expect that this is to compensate for future stretching. Let's just say that the end-braces are very snug but they can easily be put into place with a bit of force.

The cot sits high enough above the floor that large gear like gun cases, duffels and backpacks can be stored below. The legs are stable - so much that I can sit on the edge and not be concerned about tipping the cot. It is also long - you would have to be a center on an NBA team to even come close to feeling the top and bottom edges. I place my Cabela's Alaskan Guide self-inflating sleeping mat under my sleeping bag to prevent any cold from coming upwards.

The Cabela's XL Cot ensures that tired hunters will sleep well.

Outfitter XL cots are vastly superior to sleeping on air mattresses or foamies. They are more comfortable - period. Plus they offer better utilization of space since much of your gear can be stored underneath. Granted, they are not light and they are somewhat bulky to pack in, but if space allows they are the best.

Sleep is essential during any outdoors activity. There is nothing as aggravating as not getting a good sleep because of cold, dampness or lumps and bumps under your sleeping bag. This is not an issue when you use the Outfitter XL cot from Cabela's.

The XL cot also makes a great spare bed for company since it is so comfortable and easy to set up. By far my favorite use of the cot is inside my Cabela's Outfitter Series XWT tent.

We recharge our batteries during our sleep. The Cabela's XL cot ensures that tired hunters will sleep well. You will enjoy your outdoors experience to the maximum when you are well rested - that is a fact.
