Graphite is, without a doubt, the best blank material to come along. However, some manufacturers have caused confusion in the marketplace by playing the modulus numbers game. Don't get caught up with the notion that the higher the modulus, the better the rod. Manufacturers that throw figures of 50 to 80 million modulus are not being up front. They may blend ten percent in the butt section, but the working part of the blank is not in the 50 to 80 million range. It's a game!
Myth: The higher the modulus, the better the rod.
|
Fact:
Modulus refers to stiffness to weight of the graphite fibers that run the length of the rod. Normally, the higher the modulus, the lower the strain (strength) rate. Without increasing both the modulus and strain rate, the rod becomes weaker. Great blank and rod manufacturers have more to offer than just numbers.

Myth: Modulus means performance.
Fact: There is more to blank and rod performance than modulus. Material properties that are considered when designing a rod for performance include:
- Modulus
- Fiber Strength
- Resin Toughness
- Amount of Fiber
- Amount of Resin
- Scrim; for hoop reinforcement and crush resistance

A high-performance fishing tool cannot be made without considering all these criteria. Appropriate materials must be combined with great design and cutting-edge machinery to build Cabela's rods and blanks. Performance is the key. Modulus by itself is just a number.
Using the best materials and design, Cabela's offers you the finest performing rods available. Once you've experienced the performance of our Fish Eagle rods, you'll understand the difference between Cabela's rods and those who have nothing else to say but "My modulus is bigger than your modulus."
