In the field, we all strive to be as safe as possible. Hunter Safety Education classes teach us the do's and don'ts with great and proven effect. Years in the field with friends and family also enhance our collective level of experience but basic human nature may cause us to forget the simple safety messages which are sometimes the most important.

The beauty and simplicity of the exposed hammer, single shot shotgun or rifle provides an added measure of safety. It is best shown by the simple adage, "never cock the firearm until you are ready to fire." The principle of an exposed hammer allows the firearm to be safely carried uncocked when in the field.
