Ford Division is backing the first U.S. all-woman team attempting to climb Mount Everest, furthering Ford's "No Boundaries" mind-set and the launch of the totally new 2003 Expedition.
"Team No BoundariesEverest Expedition" is a group of five women, ages 35 to 58, who share a passion for climbing and the outdoors. Combined, the team has more than 100 years of climbing experience and has reached six of the world's seven highest summits.
With Ford providing the team with the funding and resources to make the trip a success, the one mountain missing from their listEverestis within their grasp.
"The climb exemplifies what No Boundaries is all aboutFord's endless drive to turn no into yes, inspiring all of us to move beyond what we thought possible," notes Jim O'Connor, former Ford Division president. "It's that mind-set that makes breakthrough products like the totally new 2003 Expedition possible, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate its introduction."
Team No Boundaries
Team No Boundaries embarked for Nepal in late March to get adjusted to the altitude before beginning their ascent to Mount Everest base camp, then to the mountain's peak above Nepal and Tibet at 29,029 feet. The team expects to return to the United States in late May or early June.
Members of Team No Boundarieswho've faced their share of challenges, including breast cancer and heart surgerystepped up their already strenuous workout routines once they realized they would attempt to climb the world's highest mountain. Unlike most teams attempting to climb Mount Everest, Team No Boundaries was able to train together prior to departure.
"Getting to this point has been an accomplishment," says O'Connor. "We wish them the best of luck with their ascent of Mount Everest, and that they continue to seek 'No Boundaries.'"
Expedition Everest
This same spirit gave rise to the Expedition Everesta specially painted and accessorized Ford Expedition model that could fit in on nearly any mountaintop.
