I like shooting new muzzleloaders, especially if I get the chance to actually use them on a hunt. I've been bench-shooting the Genesis, Remington's venture into the muzzleloading rifle market, for a couple years, but this past deer season was the first chance I had to actually take it hunting. Sporting a modern, inline look and feel, the Genesis' main design feature is the TorchCam action, which allows this rifle to operate in an overall lighter, shorter package than many other inline rifles. The TorchCam swings open to access the nipple and breech plug. It's a simple design, but one that works quite well. The TorchCam gives the #209 primer excellent protection from the elements. There's no bolt or other action to deal with. Simply pull back the hammer and you're ready to fire. The over-travel hammer never comes in contact with the firing pin unless the rifle is fully cocked and the trigger is pulled. There's also a crossbolt safety for added security.

There are several different stock and barrel configurations to choose from. I hunted with a thumbhole stock/stainless barrel mode. I used the included, factory-installed Williams™ fiber-optic open sights, but each Genesis is drilled and tapped for adding a riflescope. The breech plug is easily removable, making the Genesis a breeze to clean. The 28" barrel has a 1-in-28" twist, which is ideal for sabots and modern projectiles, and it will accommodate 150-grain charges. For my hunts, I used a 100-grain charge with a sabot, but also had success using a lubed non-sabot bullet as well. I took two whitetail does during the Nebraska muzzleloader season. The Genesis performed flawlessly, and is one of the most affordable inline muzzleloaders on the market.
