Smells like moth balls, bad!

I bought this because the first review really sold me, but I just opened the package to put it on my bow, and I can smell it from three feet away - a real strong smell of MOTH BALLS.
Moth balls are napthalene crystals. Related compounds have been used in the plastic-manufacturing industry to keep plastics soft and not stick to the forms or molds used to shape the plastic. The "Deadenator" is a soft plastic doohickey designed to absorb vibration and the one I received smells strongly like moth balls.
Unfortunately, if it smells so bad that I can smell it at 3 feet, the deer will be able to smell it a mile away and I'll never get a chance to fill my archery tag.
I'm going to leave it on my desk for a few days and see if the smell goes away - if it continues to smell I'm sending it back.
If the smell goes away, I'll write a second review after I've given the Deadenator a try out on the archery course.

I bought this for my daughters new Mission Maniac. It is as advertized. I have bow hunted for twenty-four years and this stabilizer is among the best I\u2019ve seen.
