I have been searching for a good spotting scope, for a year or so, something that isn't too heavy or bulky that I could put in my pack for hikes, or just sitting. I had looked at the Nikon Prostaff, the Leupold Gold Ring, and others. While the others mentioned are very good scopes, they also had a big price to go with them. I bought the Leupold SX-1 Ventana (not the kit, as I didn't want the big case, or the tripod - I wanted to put my own kit together) along with the Vanguard heavy duty bench tripod. I wasn't sure if the scope came with a protector case or sleeve, like the rifle scopes do. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it came with a wet suit type (thicker and better than the rifle scope sleeve) protector case, this will give it more protection in my pack. I purchased the 15-45X60 angled model. This scope does everything I wanted and more. Has great field of vision, easy to focus, very light weight, nice eye relief and comfort, the scope shell is very durable. I have not taken it hunting yet, but plan to take it to Colorado this year. I'll come back after the hunt and give an update, but so far it exceeds my expectations at a nice price. Nicely done Leupold!

This Leupold may not be the best scope out there (ie: Swarovski; Zeiss, etc.) but then you are not paying thousands of dollars for it. It is a very good scope with nice smooth adjustments. It has bright, clear and sharp characteristics. I waited since February to get it but I am glad I kept it on backorder. Very well constructed, it is also lightweight and compact. Simple and quick to use. I like the angled version because it allows me and my girlfriend (who is several inches shorter than I) to view wildlife without having to adjust the height up and down frequently. We are very happy with the purchase!
