Quality Product
Date:
Been considering a spotting scope purchase for 3 years doing research. Finally decided to take the plunge. I have had it narrowed down 3 different times to 2 scopes and the 12-40x60 Gold Ring HD kit was in the mix all 3 times so based on comments on many websites it was the choice. Loved the kit, was pleased to find out the tripod I had read some mixed reviews about was much better than post lead me to believe. The advertisements on the case were a pain to get the sticky stuff off just like the post read. The spotting scope itself was excellent. Just moved out to Colorado where it will come in very handy and have played with it several days and it is awesome. Went to the range a couple weeks ago and could identify .223 shots easily at 200 yards on the target. Have used it on the plains and I am tickled, didn't note any problem with adjusting focus or changing power setting like I read about on some post. Compact size is what put me over the edge on this product for packing it up in the mountains. Looking to use it and check the box on my first elk kill in Colorado if I get drawn in the lottery for a tag.

Great scope, tripod ok
Date:
As stated in previous reviews the double sided sticky tape they use on the outside of the case is a pain the butt to get off. I had to buy a can of goof off to get the really tacky residue that is left on the case (both sides) off. I would gladly give them an extra $5-10 to have them use no tape and put the leupold advertisement on the inside of the case.
The scope is great and the clarity is excellent. The scope also comes with a rubber extended eye relief that can be used or folded right back on itself which is a nice feature.
Non of the camera adapters fit my Canon Powershot S3.
The cover for the scope is great and is a nice durable cover that stays on all the time. Even with the cover on it still fits in the molded case.
As for the tripod it is ok. It is a tripod for either bird watching or for out at the range. It is extremely light and the slightest wind will knock it over. The other drawback about the tripod is it has no handles for adjustment horizontal or vertical. It uses a rotational ball so you are left adjusting left and right and up and down at the same time. It would be nice to have a tripod that you can adjust just the left to right and just the up and down not both at the same time.
The case that the scope comes in is a pretty good case. It is pretty sturdy.
All in all a great scope just need the tripod and possibly the carrying case upgraded if you plan on using it consistantly.

Leupold 12-40X60 HD spotting scope kit
Date:
I took this scope to eastern Oregon mule deer hunting. Worked good as I expected. Scope, and tri-pod fit in my day pack. Tri-pod is a little lite, if wind blows your scope will tip over. Optics not as good as the higher priced euro scopes, but they don't fit in your day pack, and leave room for other things. This is a good quality product. I would recomend this to any one who takes a spotting scope in their back pack.

Leupold 12-40X60 Golden Ring HD Spotting Scope Kit
Date:
I rifle hunt deer and elk in Oregon and Montana. I was shocked to see a few less than stellar reviews on this scope, and like many on here I did a a lot of research on spotting scopes before making my decision. Without question this is the scope to buy. You cant beat it's clarity, size, accessories, (the kit) and warranty for the price. I am confident that this will be a scope that I pass down to my son when my hunting days are over. I am currently 43, he is 14 months. You cannot go wrong buying this spotting scope.
