Johnson Silver Minnow

These weedless lures work wonders in catching fish. Based on a nearly 80-year-old design, Johnson's Silver Minnows attract bass, northern pike and other species in freshwater and they're ideal in saltwater for redfish and speckled trout. Thicker in the middle than at the edges, the Silver Minnow's 35° angle rocks the lure back and forth as you retrieve it, yet its unique design won't roll and twist line. With plated silver or 24-carat gold, the minnow also flashes brighter than chrome or brass as it wobbles through the water. The design and action also let you crank the lure through thick hydrilla, cabbage grass or milfoil without worrying about snagging. Each lure has a hand-soldered hook and no twist eye.

An Essential Spoon

I regularly use Johnson Silver Minnows in sizes ranging from 1/4oz. to 1 1/8oz. for Pike here in England . They are an essential spoon on heavily weeded waters .
My favourite is a 3/4oz. in silver tipped with a motor oil or black single or twin-tail grub throughout summer months. This is always a winning combination I can trust to catch a fish or two.
In cold water conditions of Spring or Autumn the 1 1/8oz size in silver or gold can be relied on to attract the attention of neutral Pike holed-up in heavy weed or cabbage .A very useful spoon - definitely a dependable favourite .

Johnson's Silver Minnow is one of the first artificial baits I used as a kid too many years ago in the 50's. Tipped with a curly tail pork rind or a pork "frog" it is deadly for bass. Since the lure is such a simple design much of its effectiveness is dependent on how the fisherman imparts the action. I have found the Silver Minnow to be effective in salt water as well.

We have a saying where we fish in Dulac La. If you want to catch fish put a popping cork with a shrimp,BUT!!!!!! if you want the big ones you get out the johnson spoon (gold 1/2 oz).We have tried every spoon out there.and to be fair some are ok, but these spoons far outperform by a 4 to 1 catch ratio. These spoons are best used with a small ball bearing swivel with a coast lock snap.The action this rig produces, is a lot of BIG FISH,even when other fishermen are not catching.Do not use roscoe barrel, use bb swivel.

I use Johnson's Silver Minnow with a GULP trailer , very effective for Walleye in heavy weed cover in Canada. Finish holds up very well ,I have used other brands of weedless spoons that loose their paint finish after a couple of days of fishing .
