SUPERIOR SURF REEL

FINALLY BIT THE BULLET AND BOUGHT A VAN STAAL. BEEN USING CHEAPER REELS IN HEAVY SURF ACTION AND ONLY GETTING ABOUT TWO YEARS SERVICE OUT OF THEM. THOUGH OVER PRICED BY VAN STAAL, IN THE LONG RUN THIS REEL IS SIMPLE, BUILT TO TAKE PUNISHMENT AND WILL LAST ME A LIFETIME.

I am a surf fisherman from long island. I target mainly striped bass and bluefish. I owned a Saragosa 8000F that was a beaut. Unfortunately if it gets dunked or is in constant spray of salt water it breaks down. Not my VS . It is sealed no salt or sand gets in. I fish big waves and sometimes my reel is completely submerged. I can bury it in the sand come back a month later dig it up dunk it in the salt water and its good to go. Best fishing investment I've ever made.

This reel is everything I have ever heard about it. I enjoy surf fishing in Florida and this makes it worry free. I can drop it in the sand while leadering in a fish and then just dunk it in the surf to clean it out and keep on fishing. If I did this to any of my other reels ( and I have) it would fill them with sand and kill them( it has). Didn't take but a short while to get used to not having a bail so don't let that keep you from getting one.Great reel and I will be getting another one in the future.
