Forward-thinking technology created a rod for extreme performance that’s fundamentally advanced from top to bottom. A coaxially layered ART® carbon-fiber core improves strength by a factor of 10 with virtually no weight increase. Nice Rod with Minor Flaws

I purchased the 7' Medium Power, Fast Action Legend Xtreme Spinning Rod.
Positives: light weight (mere 3.4 oz that is similar to the newest top-of-the-line rods from G Loomis NRX series and Shimano Cumulus series, very sensitive rod, nice workmanship and very versatile).
Neutrals Remarks: St. Croix "Medium" feels more like "Medium Heavy" from other makers. Keep this in mind before you purchase this rod since it has a slightly stiffer feel to it. I preferred the Medium action (increased versatility) compared to other offerings from St. Croix.
Negatives: New REC guides in the Legend Xtreme model is lighter and more durable than traditional guides, but look kinda dull (double looped wire with no inserts). REC guides do not increase casting distance. Negative effect on line (?) unknown for now. REC guides seem to be better tailored for casting rods (?). The design and placement of the reel seat/handle makes it so that you need to position your hand or fingers higher up the rod to get optimum positioning. Akward at first, but one can adjust over time.
Other Notes: I own two of the newest and lightest weight reels made, Shimano ci4 2500 model and Pflueger Patriarch 9535 model that balance well with this rod. I chose the Patriarch for this rod since it has the dark blue/polished alum. to better match the blue/green color of the Legend Xtreme. Total weight of my set-up is less than 11 oz. (rod 3.4 oz + reel 7.4 oz).
Any neutral or negative comments I made about the rod may be a non-issue for some. The slightly lower priced Legend Elite Rod remedies any neutral or negative comments I made and uses the same blank material, but is not as light weight. Does 1/2 oz weight difference matter (?) You decide...

Had the Legend Tournament walleye pole but, my friend had one of these and let me use it. Very light and responsive pole. You can even feel your minnow twitch. I'm glad that he talked me into it. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

the lightest

I have recently purchased the Stcroix Legend Extreme. This is my third StCroix rod i have two of the legend Tournements I just wanted to upgrade this year since i loved the other ones. I have the 7' M matched with the NEW Shimano Stradic CI4 and i must say its the lighteset combo i have it feels like nothing is even there. toped it off with #8 fluro. It is pretty pricey though but if your looking for the lightest combo and good craftmanship than go with stcroix. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!!!!

I recently purchased my first St. Croix spinning rod model #XS69MLXF 6'9" X-Fast ML. I cannot begin to tell you how impressed I am with the weight and sensitivity of this rod as well as the brute power of this rod. I use it primarily for jigging and will certainly be investing in other St. Croix rods in the future. It has actually increased my catch rate because now the hookset is superior.
