I have both models and love them... amen on closing the bail by hand... switched from PowerPRO to 4lb Nanofil a while back and the reel acts like it was made for the new line... hooked to Eagle Claw featherlight 7'6" and 9' rods makes a deadly combo... almost feel sorry for the fish... almost... have gotten eight limits in a row at Bon Tempe lake... that would have never happened before because the trout there are very sneaky... when my other rigs give out I will add more of these,,, they are a dream come true!

I brought the 230XL about 4 years ago, and used it for everything from crappie to pike. There is a definite increase in casting difference from my other spinning reels. I found the drag to be smooth, and responsive. I haven't experience much line twist. I close the bail manually with any spinning reel that I own. You will always twist the line by closing the bail by cranking the handle.

I have used these reels, they are good reels, but cannot stand pressure for more than 2 years. I have to admit that i use the reels almost everyday.
I am buying another one because it is made of high quality material and most important you can be sure that you have alot of line in the spool to fight a large fish with a fine line. I used it for snook fishing, landed alot of huge ones, used it on the beach. it is light and extremely good. Buy one you will not regret it.

I have used my reel often. I used 4lb test mono. & super lines
The bail has a problem with picking up the line & wrapping it
incorrectly on the spool. Most of the time its okay, but it is a problem. Granted if its windy it happens more often due to the light line. As far as distance it works like a dream.
