Okuma Hardstone Spinning Reel

  • Okuma’s patented EOS oscillation system
  • Aluminum spool anodized with holes
  • Eight ball bearings
  • One stainless steel roller bearing
The Hardstone is long on features and short on price. This reel combines a rugged graphite body and an eight-ball-bearing drive. Elliptical Oscillation System produces even line lay with added strength. QuickSet anti-reverse eliminates backplay for solid hooksets. Anodized aluminum spool is ported to reduce weight. RES-balanced rotor for smooth casting. Hydro Bloc water tight seal for years of fish-hooking service.

I bought 2 of these reels out of the bargain cave last year. I loved the way both of these reels have functioned for bass and pike, until the stem of one of the reels broke off where it connects with the body, when I set the hook on a small pike. The connection spot seemed very thin. Seeing that I will not buy this product again even though it functions is great for the price.

durable, smooth and economical

I have 2 of the Hardstone model 40 reels I use for king salmon in the Klamath river. I abuse these reels on big fish in fast water and they hold up better than any other reels I have used in the 50 years i have been fishing these waters. I would rate them higher than reels I have worn out in a single season that cost 2 to 3 times as much. The only thing I would improve is to include an extra spool with the Hardstone reel.

Excellent reel - GREAT value
Date:
Several years ago I bought my first Okuma spinning reels - an Epixor 20a & 30a - which I used consistently here on our preserve lake in the Sea Pines Preserve. With these rigs I caught dozens of large mouth bass fro 1.0 to 7.5 lbs on 8 and 10 # test mono. As I added gear to replace my old Abu Garcia's I saw the Hardstone in the catalog at a super price point and bought an HS 30 as a trial. That reel sold me big time! I now have six Hardstones: 20, 30 & 40's that have been excellent in every respect - smooth and strong. Only once did I get a "lemon" w significant gear "grinding" which Cabela's replaced immediately...(a production quality issue?) but, thus, a 4 star rating rather than a 5. Give this reel your test!
