Bargain Cave Find

I went out to central MT last summer for a trout trip and on the way a buddy and I stopped at the Cabela's in Billings to grab a couple of things for the trip. We both purchased some Fenwick rods that were on sale and went searching for some reels to match them up with. My friend found a Shimano that felt quite smooth on display and grabbed the last one before I had a chance to act. I ended up looking to no avail and decided to head over to the Bargain Cave to see if there were any open box treasures within.

I found this reel in the Bargain Cave (open box) and it felt great, patting myself on the back for my frugal purchase. I didn't really know that I had struck gold until I got it out on the water with a panther-martin later in the week. I don't even like to use the world smooth when describing the casts, its almost otherworldly how accurate one can be with this reel.

I spent the majority of the next 5 days casting and retrieving and brought in at least 30 fish a day. I hardly broke out the fly rod because I was having such good luck with the Daiwa with some 6lb fireline on the spool.

The Fenwick, the purchase that ultimately put me in the market for this new reel, snapped just below the top eyelet on a hookset with about 2 hours of fishing left for the week, is still one of my favorite rods....only because it led me to buying this reel.
