This is a very smooth reel I love the trigger cast I have been using this real for over a year for everything from channel cats to blue gills and have no complaints at all great value

Have had this reel 3 years now ( 2000 size ) and it has not failed me yet. I only use 4 lb line with it mainly for panfish and jig fishing river smallies.
This reel was made by Daiwa as I had originally suspected and has the over-sized spool for longer casts as well as less line memmory. Reel is extremely smooth and has a very good drag system.
You just can't find a better reel for the price.
Tenn angler, you just got a bad reel. When I said they were disposable I meant when something breaks, like a bail spring. Then I buy something to replace it instead of trying to find replacement parts.

Smooth, but short-lived

The reel felt great out of the package and it cast great and was as smooth as silk on the retrieve.
I noticed it has a lot of similarities to the Pflueger/Shakespeare budget line (though the reel arm is particularly nice and matches the one on the President and on the Dimension).
Once I hit the water and was hooking into fish, there was an odd clicking sound on the retrieve (and it wasn't the drag). It usually had a light, internal clicking noise when any tension was on the line. Again NOT the drag. It didn't slip or give out line like the drag does when set light. It just knocked and clicked.
After a hard day of use out of the canoe, the reel was sticking at the top of its rotation. I could move through it, but a lot of time, it sort of halted on the retrieve until I applied more pressure and when I snagged or hooked into a fish, back came the knocking from inside.
I own a LOT of spinning reels and I fish nearly 100 days a year. Admittedly, I use cheap stuff from a canoe when I take it because of the water and grit that sometimes get into a reel, but this isn't user error, but a bad reel. Because of other reviews and my overall satisfaction with Cabela's products, I may get another (for that price, so what if it is disposable?), but I am hesitant to recommend it until I try another one and see if it performs correctly.
