I bought this reel for a lightweight speckled trout setup I was putting together. It works perfectly on my 6'9" Wright & McGill flats rod and I spooled it with 15# Power Pro braid. I use it only in salt water and its held up against many specks, flounder, and even a 37" red (cajun sled ride in the kayak!). Its by far the best reel I've used and I plan to get another soon.

Penn Sargus 4000

I purchased this for saltwater and bass fishing. I use it primarily for saltwater.
The reel was pretty good for a while and now I have purchased my second reel. After only a few uses the bail screws have backed out on both reels, they have peeled cosmetically (not that big a deal) and they stiffen right after use in saltwater. I mean as soon as your done and you drive home for 2 hours. If you don't immediately rinse them they will stiffen and you will need to take them completely apart and clean...
They are very smooth on stripers and flounder. I would still recommend these reels.

i bought this reel for fluke and toke it on a striper trip. and i highly recommend this buy. cant beat reeling in a 40lb stripper on a spinning pole. what a fight. i am a big fan of Penn for slat water reels, i got a sargus 5000, gto 220, and recently purchased a Penn battle 5000 for fluke.

For the money this is a 5* reel. I purchased mostly for a striper/catfish reel for a modestly priced combo with one of Cabela's catfish rods. I recently landed a 30 pound striper with this reel and during the 15 minute fight it was flawless. Smooth drag and plenty of power.
