Not a good buy
Date:
Skip this reel and buy an Advantage. Had the reel less than a season and the bearings have already failed. I fish heavy saltwater surf and this design just isn't meant for the surf period. My advantage has by far out performed this reel even being submerged in salt water.

Reel not sealed
Date:
This reel is not sealed and did not even last a season of light use in the salt. Perhaps a good boat rod, but do not believe there claim of sealed ball bearings.

daiwa coastal spinning 3000
Date:
i got this last winter to pair with a seven foot rod for wadefishing on the texas coast. i fish lures exclusively, in the surf and in the bay.
when looking at this reel i took into consideration its line capacity (ive been spooled by jackfish&bull reds and i use ten pound test), weight, sealed drag system, and price. after nearly two dozen days of use over the past 9 months, it has proven itself as a great purchase. it is light for its capacity, smooth for the price, and rinses with fresh water are all its needed to stay that way.
the reasons for four stars are: ive only had it 9 months, if it lasts another year without incident or loosening up too much, i would rate it 5; it has made a clicking noise while turning that went away after a rinse; it hasnt reeled in a 30+ trout yet.

Daiwa Coastal Inshore 2500 Spinning Reel
Date:
This reel is built like a tank. Flawless drag system and as smooth as a much more expensive reel. I would recommend this reel to any inshore light tackle angler.
