No better rod out there, period...
Date:
I have an AIS66MHF that I upgraded to after sending in a broken similar Tidemaster..It had become snagged on a Mangrove branch Snookfishing down in Pine Is. Sound. FL last Spring, and exploded when I attempted to free the plug...after sending the old broken one back to St. Croix, they suggested I upgrade to the new Avid In Shore series...and I did..
...upon receipt, one of my first observations was " this is a whole different rod!"...while the old one was a veritable broomstick, this new one was a nice light stick with a very fast tip, but enough power to handle tough fish...this bore out over the course of some very tough fishing last season here on eastern LI...handling top water Bass, Albies and Bluefish(up to 18#) thru November, convinced me that this new series was all I needed...I recently purchased an AIS70MHS, to replace an older, similar #s Premier, and am looking forward to using it this Spring...further plans include the AIS80MHF to replace my trusted old Tidemaster of those numbers...and remenber, these new Avids carry a lifetime replacement warranty...

great rod!!
Date:
After lots of reading online I bought the 8' AIS80MF. I fish for blues and stripers from shore and kayak. This rod is a pleasure the medium version is only rated to 3/4 ounce but it comfortably casts topwater plugs approaching 2 ounces, perhaps 1.5 oz would be my upper rating limit. Casting a 2oz bucktail I got distance but the rod felt sluggish in a rip. A medium size topwater plug, in the 1.5oz range however felt fine. Its really light but is an absolute cannon, the medium action makes it a great rod for topwater fishing (small pencils, etc.). Feels almost too light in the hand, I haven't really tested the rod on more than 5lb blues, it remains to be seen how it holds up to bigger fish. Nice action, fishes beautifully. I have a MH St. Croix Premier that feels like a lead pipe compared to this rod.

Power!

I have two models of this rod, the 76MLF and the 76MF. I use these two rods fishing Redfish tournaments around Florida and these rods are always the first to come out of the rod holder. My favorite is the ML version. It is light, responsive and has MORE than enough backbone to handle redfish and trout. I use the MF version around bars and mangroves so I can lock down a drag and stop a fish. In the past, I had to use MH and H outfits of other brands to stop a fish, but those were a chore to cast all day. These rods are light and tough. Buy a couple, spool on some powerpro and have some fun. These rods are more than worth the investment.

Love them!

Really a great rod! I have been using Star Rods Stellar Lite series and some Shimano Crucials but stepped up last year to these. I caught more fish than ever before. Very sensitive rod and it took a beating. We fish Grand Isle, La about 5-6 months straight and we go out about 4 trips a weekend so you get the idea. It is all inshore with 95 % being Reds, Specks and Flounder. We tend to fish two ways live on the bottom or live under a Lindy "Bayside" Paridise Popper. I matched them with some Shimano Stradic FIs and a Shimano Sustain. The line I use the yellow 30lb Power Pro as I can see it better and looks very good on the rod. I could feel every little bump or suck on the bait with this set up. I have 2 - AIS70MLF and 1 - AIS70MF. The AIS70MLF feels great in the store but does have some give on small fish and even more on larger. Now if you are not going for quantity and enjoy the fight pick this one as they are a lot of fun. Now it does not do as well with a poping cork as it will wear you out. The AIS70MF is almost a hair to stiff but is a very nice rod. I have also tried the AIS70MM but I do not like a rod that has that much flex. Any way they are good looking rods and they perform very well. Also they are very good for the price and yes you will find more expensive rods more sensitive but these are very nice rods.
