This is a quality rod reel combo at a good price. What I noticed was my GL40 reel would stop spinning as soon as a I quit cranking. What I guess is a lack of smoothness. Also someone dropped the reel on the rim of the spool and I felt it would abraid the line at that spot. I sent it back and the next reel would not evenly spool up line. I sent that one back. The third reel spooled better but not perfect. I need to take it fishing to see if this works for me or not. I did not spool the initial reel so I do not know if that issue affected it. Drag seems pretty good right out of the box but I need to see how it seats over time.

Well i will start with the bad. This is the only rod i have ever had snap while in action. It was on a day of many snags and i was trying to horse one out. CRACK! And no, i wasn't using braid. The reel however has been very dependable. I have caught more fish on this reel then anything else i currently use. I have it spooled up with 6 lb. seaguar invizx flurocarbon. I have caught countless trout and panfish and many bass. This reel has brought them all in without issue. I did dump this reel in a muddy trout stream once and it started to freeze up. After a good cleaning and lubing it is functioning again. The reel alone has made this combo worth it for me over the years.

Decent rod

For a combo, this deal is really good. My first one broke just by it hitting a tree (it wasn't even hit that hard and the lead eye snapped off) but they replaced it for me with no problem. The reel does the job for this rod. If you're strapped for cash but want a rod that just works, I definitely recommend it!
