Came apart a first use
Date:
I bought 2 of tthese reels when I drove thru Wheeling WV. One of them is working fine, but the other had several loose screws??? The knob to the handle was the only victim and I am searching for a machine thread screw so I can reatach the handle knob. I checked several other screws and several were loose. This is not good for quality control. The other reel was just fine and had zero loose screws. I like the reel and have never had a problem with any of Cabella's products. If you buy one of these check them over carefully before using them in the field.

IMPROPER ALIGNMENT
Date:
This is not a review of the Cabela's reel...
It's a suggestion though...
I have an old Penn 650SS metal reel and it
has the same problem...I believe it's related...
I solved the problem by having patience/w
the way I put the spool back on...seems
there's a "step" on the shaft that you need to
be sure your past it for the drag to engage
and if your not careful when putting it back
it seems to be down completely...but it's not.
I've yet to trust the (dozens of) new reels out
there unless their by an old brand like the Penn
Fierce for example...but of the trusted brands
the only real junk is the Ambasider BCX.
I think you should try making sure the spool
is down properly on the Cabela's as they don't sell sub standard reels...

drag problems
Date:
I took it fishing the first time without cleaning it or taking it apart. After fishing I took off the spool and cleaned it as I had been surf fishing. Putting it back together I didnt check the drag. When I cast it out into to surf with a 4oz sinker I could not get the line to come in as the drag would not work no matter how tight I turned it down. I took of the spool apart several times to try to figure out why the drag wasnt working could not find the problem. But I always carry two extra reel/rods.
Once at home I took the drag disc apart and put it back together and had the same problem. Seemed like the the spool didnt fit all the way on the shaft. Finally I did not put the disc on but put the shaft through and then put each disk on the shaft one by one. Put the spool back on and presto the drag worked. Before I must have tryed 15 times to get the drag to work. I still dont know why but when I take it apart again I will put the disc on one at a time.
I bought at Cabelas also a Okuma Exipor bait caster at the same time and I enjoy casting both of the spinning reels. Another brand not sold a Cabelas I could cast 375feet with a 4oz but with the two new reels I can get up to 400 feet and with the Okuma 435feet using 50lb green propower line. The Cabelas brand is a great buy for the money and I am going to buy this week another saltstriker.
